Notes:
The double dating system was used to note Mary’s baptism on 23 January 1701/2.
An original or transcription error also lists the mother’s name incorrectly. “Mary the Daughter of Jno. & Mary Guthery baptiz. 23th of January 1701/2.”
Mary’s father died in 1706 when she was just a few years old. Being a girl it may not have been considered necessary to assign her a guardian while her mother was still living. We don’t know exactly when Elizabeth (Basket) Guthrie died, but she apparently had legal troubles around 1715 and was in a relationship with William Finney.
On 3 Jun 1718, DB3, p440: Bond of Phillip Warwick, Thomas Cheyney, & John Owen for 250pds tobacco. Condition that Phillip Warwick must pay unto Mary Guttrich orphan of John Guttrich decd all such estate due as soon as she is of lawful age.
On 1 Sep 1719: Bond securing that William Cardwell shall pay unto MARY GOODRICH orphan of JOHN GOODRICH decd all estate that shall appear to be due to said orphan when she attains lawful age. Securities: William Cardwll, Thomas Kid, Thomas Kid Jr.
Note the “Cardwell” connection. See the theory that Elizabeth Basket may have been a daughter of Thomas Cardwell.
The CCP Register lists the following possibility: Mary Goodrich dyed Jan’y 17. & was buried Jan’y 19 1724.
