ORIGIN THEORIES for GFG6 – BRANCH B

Adam Guthrie 1740ENG – p1785ENG & Elizabeth Nesbit
of Northumberland, England

Since the majority of Guthrie Family Group 6 lineages traditionally have some historical ties to Scotland, it is likely that Adam Guthrie’s ancestral line also originated there. It is unknown at this time how many generations resided in England.

Northumberland is a county in the North East of England which borders the Scottish Borders to the north and the North Sea coastline on the east. The Scottish Borders council area is made up of historical counties Berwick, Peebles, Roxburgh, and Selkirk Counties, and is located south of Edinburgh.

This region neighbors the area in Berwick that is home to GFG6 – Branch A. That family includes descendants using the name Adam, so it is certainly possible that this GFG6 – Branch B shares a closer common ancestor with that particular line.

Findings:
Our participant has a Y-DNA 67 marker test matching 64/67 with the Group Mode DNA (most common value at any given genetic marker).

DYS456 appears to be a fast-moving marker. The group mode is listed as 18, but the range is 16 to 19. This kit is the only one with a result of 16.

CDYii = 38 instead of Group Mode = 39. This is commonly a fast moving marker across all groups. Also found in Kits 307769 (Branch D), 578951 (Branch E), and 251848 (Branch J).

DYS578 = 9 instead of Group Mode 8. This is a unique genetic difference compared to the rest of the group, which indicates that it is likely a more recent/random change rather than a pattern marker reflecting inherited genetic changes.
